Keynote speaker: Geoffrey Canada
President and CEO, Harlem Children’s Zone

UChicago is holding its annual MLK Celebration at Rockefeller Memorial Chapel—where Martin Luther King gave one of his first Chicago speeches. Keynote speaker Geoffrey Canada will give a presentation on education.

As a schoolteacher, Geoffrey Canada dreamt of more opportunities for the children of Harlem, New York. Then he shared that dream with the world and conceived the Harlem Children’s Zone, which today serves more than 10,000 children and 7,400 adults to strengthen the community and give kids a brighter future. Inspired by the Harlem Children’s Zone, Chicago built its own Woodlawn Children’s Promise Community to support families and education on the South Side.
